LOCAL STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP (LSP)

What is an LSP?

A Local Strategic Partnership (LSPs) is a single non-statutory, multi-agency body, which matches local authority boundaries, and aims to bring together at a local level the different parts of the public, private, community and voluntary sectors.
LSPs are key to tackling deep seated, multi-faceted problems, requiring a range of responses from different bodies. Local partners working through a LSP will be expected to take many of the major decisions about priorities for their local area.

Why do we have a Local Strategic Partnership?

Lack of joint working at local level has been one of the key reasons for lack of progress in delivering sustainable economic, social and physical regeneration, or improved public services, that meets the needs of local people. A combination of organisations, and the community, working co-operatively as part of an LSP will have a far greater chance of success.

To achieve these improvements, the Government, local authorities and other service providers need to work co-operatively, change the ways they work, reallocate resources and 'bend' their mainstream programmes to tackle issues that really matter to local people.

One Barnsley is the name of the Local Strategic Partnership for our area

'Barnsley is on the brink of momentous change. Our 2020 vision is for Barnsley to be a successful, uniquely distinctive 21st century market town at the centre of a borough that offers prosperity and opportunity for all.'

Cllr Stephen Houghton, Chair of One Barnsley
