'Barnsley is on the brink of momentous change. Our 2020 vision is for Barnsley to be a successful, uniquely distinctive 21st century market town at the centre of a borough that offers prosperity and opportunity for all.' - Cllr Stephen Houghton, Chair of One Barnsley
What is a Local Strategic Partnership (LSP)?
A Local Strategic Partnership (LSPs) is a single non-statutory, multi-agency body, which matches local authority boundaries, and aims to bring together at a local level the different parts of the public, private, community and voluntary sectors.
LSPs are key to tackling deep seated, multi-faceted problems, requiring a range of responses from different bodies. Local partners working through a LSP will be expected to take many of the major decisions about priorities for their local area.
Why do we have a Local Strategic Partnership?
Lack of joint working at local level has been one of the key reasons for lack of progress in delivering sustainable economic, social and physical regeneration, or improved public services, that meets the needs of local people. A combination of organisations, and the community, working co-operatively as part of an LSP will have a far greater chance of success.
To achieve these improvements, the Government, local authorities and other service providers need to work co-operatively, change the ways they work,
reallocate resources and 'bend' their mainstream programmes to tackle issues that really matter to local people.
What does it do?
We are all talking! Why better partnership matters.
One Barnsley brings together the top people from the Police, PCT, Barnsley College, Local Authority, Chamber, BBEMI, Learning and Skills Council, Yorkshire Forward, Job Centre Plus, Government Office(Yorkshire and the Humber) and the Voluntary & Community sector to tackle problems that face Barnsley.
Individual organisations can achieve considerable success. However, by standing together we can build on these successes to tackle the issues facing our community to improve the quality of life in Barnsley and make it a place where people want to live and work.
By working in partnership we can:
Our Vision for Barnsley
One Barnsley has prepared the Community Plan which outlines the ambitions for the borough and highlights how important it is that we all work in harmony as residents, statutory organisations, community groups and private sector.
The Community Plan’s Vision for Barnsley is:
Where are LSPs being established?
LSPs are being set up across England, but in the 88 most deprived local authority areas, they are receiving additional resources through the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF). LSPs are about new ways of working and improving the delivery of services to local people across the whole of England and not just the most deprived areas.
